About The Expo 2020

We are proud to announce that the Bergen County Academies has been approved by the Society for Science and the Public, to run our own ISEF-affiliated fair The BCA Research Expo. Participation is limited to the students attending the school. The BCA Expo is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Winners of the BCA Research Expo competition will represent BCA at ISEF. Each year, more than 7 million high school students around the world, develop original research projects and present their work at local science competitions with the hope of making it to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, a program of the Society for Science & the Public. Approximately 1,700 winners of local, regional, state, and national competitions are invited to participate in this week-long celebration of science, technology, engineering, and math. At the event, these young innovators share ideas, showcase cutting-edge research, and compete for more than 4 million dollars in awards and scholarships.Top of page

Volunteer As A Judge

Participation as a judge in the BCA Research Expo can be an extremely rewarding experience. Experts from all fields of science, math and engineering (see specific categories) are needed, not only, to help judge the exhibits but also to interact with students. Therefore, participating as a judge is critically important to the success of the BCA Research Expo as well as enhancing the learning experience for the participating students. Judges can request disciplines to evaluate and are expected to be knowledgeable and experienced in the subject matter. For a discussion regarding the required credentials, and to sign up, please visit here. As a judge you will be tasked with assessing parameters of a science project such as creativity, experimental design and use of the scientific method, data collection and analysis, interpretation of results and the potential impact of the topic investigated. In addition, you will also be asked to critique the student’s level of understanding of their research and their presentation skills.Top of page

Volunteer At The Expo

Volunteers are critical to the success of this endeavor. You do not need to be knowledgeable about science to be helpful. With many students, judges and guests at this event, we will need help with registration, building logistics, snack distribution and more. If you would like to be a part of this exciting event in its inaugural year, please sign up here. We will contact you with your assignment and provide you with all the information you will need to help this day run smoothly. All you will need to bring is your friendly, helpful self.Top of page
